When you are facing jaw surgery, often you will need to be on a liquid diet for a number of weeks. This is challenging, especially if your jaw is wired shut or if you have only limited movement of your mouth.
The book "Dinner Through A Straw" includes 88 pages of information, tips, and recipes for people who are recovering from jaw surgery. The book was developed by Patti Rann Thigpen, a doctor of audiology who underwent jaw surgery. Ms. Thigpen's jaw was wired shut for six weeks. She developed a series of recipes for herself which she incorporated into this book.
The first 30 pages of the book contain detailed information about preparing for jaw surgery and staying healthy afterward. The balance of the book is filled with easy recipes for soups, salads, entrees, and desserts (which are to be blended or pureed for a liquid/soft food diet).
We highly recommend this book. It will help you get through those first weeks (or months) of jaw surgery recovery!

This little book is truly a gem. The author, Patti Rann Thigpen, has been very thorough in giving advice and recipes for recovery from jaw surgery or oral trauma. If I were having jaw surgery, I would definitely want this book at home waiting for me afterward!
